About Firefly-One

Effect of Pulsed Xenon on plants.

Our Story

Firefly-One, LLC. is a US-based company with a mission to introduce Pulsed Xenon Lighting for agriculture to solve energy problems and improve operating outcomes.  Pulsed Xenon Light is full-spectrum light, mimicking sunlight, supplying the plant with the light it needs while only using a fraction of the energy most agricultural lights consume.

Two years ago, the inventor of Pulsed Xenon Lighting for horticulture came to Neotek with a need to design a suitable light fixture to that would withstand the rigors of humidity and heat encountered in greenhouses. The inventor, Dick Bostdorff, a long-time tomato grower, had conducted field research for five years with growers in the Ohio/Michigan region. The results were extremely promising, but he needed a manufacturer that could produce a fixture that would consistently provide high intensity, full spectrum Pulsed Xenon Lighting with durable LED task lights.  Together, we are introducing this revolutionary solution for the ag industry under two patents.

Founder, President & CEO
Member of IES, IALD, ALA, ASABE

Craig Satterfield was an innovator in early music lighting industry, working with bands such as Led Zeppelin, Leon Russell, Cat Stevens and ZZ Top. In 1984, he turned his attention to the residential and commercial lighting market, founding Neotek, Inc. Neotek patented the use of cold cathode lighting as an alternative to fluorescent lighting, later expanding into LED lighting as the technology advanced to commercial-grade applications. In 2023, Craig met with the patent holder for the use of Pulsed Xenon for agriculture, and added Firefly-One as a division of Neotek.

Craig brings 54 years of experience as a lighting entrepreneur and industry innovator to the team. He holds a unique comprehension of lighting system designs that bring optimal results. His goal is to manufacture horticultural lighting that provides better plant growth using less energy, helping to solve the world’s ecological sustainability and food insecurities.

Vice President & COO
Member of IES, IALD, ALA

Gavin has an extensive background in manufacturing and installation of lighting systems in the United States. He has 20 plus years in the lighting industry starting in the production shop then moving up through the ranks in the company.  Gavin has worked with many lighting designers and architects to make their designs come to creation with physical products in the linear lighting industry. In 2018 Gavin became the VP/COO of Neotek, Inc. after the former VP retired.

After years of mentoring under his father, Gavin took the reigns of Neotek’s architectural division of the company in January of 2020, during the height of COVID. The company withstood the  major impact of COVID, continuing to maintain contacts and keep the employees on staff.  In 2023, Neotek gained momentum at a staggering pace. The company has emerged stronger and continues the tradition of quality workmanship.

Richard "Dick" Bostdorff

Inventor, Partner & CTO
Member & Former President of AIF (Agricultural Incubator Foundation)

Richard (Dick) Bostdorff brings over 70 years experience in agriculture.  He obtained his bachelor’s from Ohio State University, working his way through school at the HJ Heinz Research facility in Bowling Green, then obtained his Master’s from  University Of Missouri at Columbia in Extension Agent. Over the course of his long career, he served as an extension agent in New York and Oregon, as a VP for a horticulture production plant in Florida, as a research specialist for Cornell University and the Williamette Valley in Oregon and as an owner/operator of a greenhouse production company in Ohio, his current home. He currently serves on several Boards of Directors and teaches at Bowling Green State University, specializing in vegetable production.

Dick began experimenting with lighting on the plants in his greenhouse and discovered that strobing with a Xenon light produced stronger tomato plants.  He patented the lighting system using Xenon strobes for agricultural applications.  He spent the next few years conducting field tests in various greenhouse environments.  After seeing continued improvements, he began seeking a manufacturer he could partner with to bring this invention to market. In 2023, he partnered with Neotek, Inc.  He remains as a consultant and valued strategic partner, while continuing to serve the agriculture and business community in Bowling Green, OH.
